Performing Arts Category
The Performing Arts Category is designed to give students the opportunity to explore the issue of social justice using a variety of methods. They may submit original Vocal, Instrumental, or Dance pieces for consideration.
All entries should respond to the following: Think about the themes of social justice, equity and fairness and create your own performance piece that showcases your ideas. Be as original and creative as you like. Express your passions, your dreams, and your desires for a more just world. Have fun! Each piece must be accompanied by a 75-100 word description that explains how the piece illustrates the theme of social justice. The description must be typed, double-spaced, with one-inch margins, using Times New Roman font and MLA Style. Students in the Performing Arts Category will videotape their work and submit it electronically via a YouTube link. All submissions may be sent to: Additional guidelines for each area are below. |
VocalContest Requirements:
Grades 5-6: One (1) minute video of original solo vocal performance. Grades 7-8: Two (2) minute video of original solo performance. Grades 9-12: Three (3) minute video of original solo performance.

InstrumentalContest Requirements:
Grades 5-6: One (1) minute video of original solo performance in any instrument. Grades 7-8: Two (2) minute video of original solo performance. Grades 9-12: Three (3) minute video of original solo performance.

DanceContest Requirements:
Grades 5-6: One (1) minute video of original solo performance in any dance style (ballet, modern, jazz, or hip-hop, contemporary). Grades 7-8: Two (2) minute video of original solo performance. Grades 9-12: Three (3) minute video of original solo performance.
